The Beacon for Wales invites you to this hands-on workshop offering practical experience of a novel participatory research method and tool for data gathering – Ketso. You will learn new ways of using participatory techniques in your research, with Dr. Joanne Tippett, the founder of Ketso and a lecturer at the University of Manchester. This one day event will include an experience of Ketso in action with stakeholders, followed by practical exercises giving you the opportunity to explore how Ketso and other participatory techniques might be of benefit in your work.
The morning will include a workshop to introduce and demonstrate Ketso. A wider range of stakeholders will be invited to this session, looking at ‘enhancing the student experience’. This will give you an opportunity to experience Ketso first hand as a participant; and to observe other stakeholders using the kit (and generating data). Dr. Tippett will also introduce key principles of stakeholder engagement, of interest to those who wish to engage a wider public with their research.
The afternoon allows for time to reflect on the morning workshop and possibilities for research. A further series of practical exercises will explore using Ketso as a method for data gathering. Dr Tippett will also introduce ideas about managing and analysing the data to emerge from such participatory research methods.

The university sector faces challenging times in the midst of budget cuts and gaps between student expectations and satisfaction with their learning experience. These challenges are likely to be exacerbated given the upcoming rise in student fees.
How can we maximise our time and effort to deliver more as budgets tighten and resources become ever more precious?
This event forms part of the full-day workshop ‘Participatory approaches to data gathering with Ketso’.
