Beyond Presenting: How to ‘Engage’ a Wider Audience

This presentation workshop will incorporate elements of physical theatre skills and vocal training combined with more academic consideration of how to structure an activity and keep an audience engaged. This workshop will focus on presenting style tips and techniques for how best to present to an audience outside of the academic community. Tips will be given on how to deliver an interesting talk for a non-academic audience and how to pitch your research right for the audience. Many opportunities will be provided throughout the workshop for participants to put their skills into practice in a supportive and safe environment.

Aspects covered include:

· Why a rigorous academic presentation style does not work with a public audience

· Discovering and using a variety of interaction styles

· How to use a presenting space to maintain your status and the audience’s attention

· Creating vocal auditory variety to keep an audience hooked
