The Beacon for Wales was one of six pilot Beacons for Public Engagement funded by the Higher Education Funding Councils, Research Councils UK and the Wellcome Trust. It was formed from a partnership between Cardiff University, the University of Glamorgan, Amgueddfa Cymru-National Museum Wales, Techniquest, and BBC Cymru Wales. The aim of the scheme was to recognise, reward and build capacity for public engagement work across the UK.

The Beacon for Wales is finishing at the end of March this year, however public engagement is still going strong in Welsh universities and if you are interested in becoming involved yourself, there are many people you can contact for help and advice.
